Many criminals are very likeable people. Merx is probably not the exception to that rule. Keep in mind though that he wasn't prosecuted because he was well liked by you or others. He was prosecuted for fraud.

I have looked with amazement how this man behaved before and after he was dethroned. He is the perfect example of a narcissist. The narcissistic personality has many characteristics: Grandiosity that makes them think they can do, think, fake, tackle anything. The fantasies of unlimited power, beauty, intelligence, wealth, fame, etc; Cold-eyed charm and arrogance, whether overt or covert; They tend to be harshly judgmental of others and they are extremely manipulative; usually highly skilled at “pushing buttons” or redirecting criticism and largely or entirely guiltless about the harm done to others. And above all the love for themself. That is the Merx we have seen in the media and still see everyday going around in his suits and ties.

You happen to like him. I personally happen to dislike him. High ranking law enforcement officers that are involved in crime are the most common factors contributing to the collapse of a society. For that he can not be liked by anyone despite his mask of charm.
