Oceanic Dead Zones Growing
By now we are all fairly familiar with the term “Global Warming”. Simply stated it means our earth is getting warmer. The affects of global warming can be demonstrated in many ways. In particular it has a tremendous impact on the ocean. Scientists believe that it could be the cause of “Dead Zones”.

St. Maarten’s vanishing Seahorses
Most people are familiar with the Seahorse. I remember as a child my parents taking me to the aquarium and I would be hypnotized watching this creature with a head like a horse, eyes that rotated in all directions like some kind of lizard, and it even had a pouch on the front like a Kangaroo.
The Seahorse is actually a fish ranging in size from 6 to 8 inches and is equipped with excellent camouflaging qualities, so they are very difficult to see in their natural habitat. They come in various colors and stripes and here in St. Maarten red and yellow seem to be the predominate color.

Coral Bleaching

One of the many affects of 'Global Warming' is 'Coral Bleaching'. This is one of the most devastating threats our coral reefs face. Coral bleaching is exactly what it sounds like, the coral turns white and subsequently dies. Coral reefs are the most sensitive ecosystems on earth. If the reef is subjected to long term temperature change (increase) this creates enormous physiological stress and the critical balance is then disrupted.
